In 1845, he went to Texas to annex the Republic of Texas, and then became commander of the Pacific Fleet. When the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) began, he occupied the California region, centered on Los Angeles, laying the foundation for the acquisition of California by the United States.

Stockton
Stockton

A city in central California, United States. It is located 100 km east of San Francisco. It is in the central lowlands where the Sacramento River, the San Joaquin River, and other rivers join. The name comes from R. Stockton, a famous naval commander in the Mexican-American War. In the mid-19th century, a settlement was formed as a supply point during the Gold Rush, and with the opening of the railroad, it developed as a distribution center for agricultural products. The canal on the San Joaquin River, completed in 1933, made it possible for large ships to navigate, and it prospered as an important river port on the Pacific coast. Wine and agricultural processing are the city's main industries, but it is also well-equipped as a major distribution center and shipping port for agricultural products. There are army and naval facilities, educational facilities such as art museums and the University of the Pacific, and parks. Population: 291,707 (2010).
