When the War of the Spanish Succession began, the Kingdom of Naples came under Austrian control (1707), but as a result of the War of the Polish Succession, Charles VII, son of King Philip V of Spain (House of Bourbon), became King of Naples and Sicily (1734), and appointed the Tuscan lawyer Bernardo Tanucci (1689-1782) as his Prime Minister, implementing Enlightenment policies. During the reign of Ferdinando IV, who succeeded Charles VII as King of Spain (Charles III) (1759), policies influenced by the political ideas of P. Giannone and the economic ideas of A. Genovese were also implemented under the guidance of Tanucci. …
