North China Work

Japanese: 華北工作 - かほくこうさく

After Japan caused the Manchurian Incident and occupied the four northeastern provinces of China, it attempted to separate the neighboring provinces of Hebei (Hebei), Chahar (Cha), Shandong, Shanxi, and Suiyuan from the Chinese Nationalist government and place them under Japanese control. The aim was to isolate the anti-Japanese movement in Manchukuo, secure military bases in preparation for war against the Soviet Union, and incorporate North China, rich in important resources such as iron and cotton, into Japan's economic bloc. This operation to separate North China was carried out with high pressure by Japanese military forces from 1935, spreading the anti-Japanese national salvation movement in China and sparking the Sino-Japanese War.

日本が満州事変を起こして中国の東北4省を占領したのち，これに接する河北省(冀)，察哈爾（チヤハル）省(察)をはじめ山東，山西，綏遠（すいえん）の華北5省を中国国民政府から切り離し日本の支配下におこうとした工作。〈満州国〉の抗日運動を孤立させ，対ソ戦に備えて軍事基地を確保し，あわせて鉄，綿花など重要資源に富む華北を日本の経済ブロックにとりこもうというねらいがあった。この華北分離工作は1935年から日本の出先軍によって高圧的に推進され，中国の抗日救国運動をひろげ，日中戦争をひきおこした。
