Born: February 1, 1828, Langneau
[Died] March 15, 1905. Palm Beach, Florida. American miner. Emigrated from Switzerland in 1847 and became successful as a Swiss embroidery importer in Philadelphia. In the 1880s, he invested all his fortune in the development of copper mines in Colorado, and had his seven sons, especially Daniel, oversee the refining process. In 1891, he formed a trust and established the Colorado Smelting Company. In 1901, he gained control of the American Smelting Company, America's largest metal refining company, and also gained leadership in the American mining industry. His family established the Daniel Florence Guggenheim Foundation, the Daniel Guggenheim Foundation for the Advancement of Aeronautics, and the Guggenheim Museum, among others.

Died: September 28, 1930. Port Washington, New York, U.S.A. American miner. Son of M. Guggenheim. In the 1880s, he helped his father develop the copper mines of Colorado, and later expanded his business to include mining tin in Bolivia, gold in Alaska, copper in Utah, and diamonds in South Africa.
