...The centre of this region is thought to be Sisupalgarh, an eastern suburb of Bhubaneshwar, where ruins from the 3rd century BC to the 4th century AD have been found, and in the 3rd century BC a city surrounded by a fort with a circumference of 1 km was built. In the 1st century BC, King Khāravela appeared, and after conquering the south, he advanced into the Ganges basin and became a major power. The king was a follower of Jainism, and is said to have recovered sacred relics that had been taken by the Nanda dynasty, and also carried out public works such as building a reservoir within his territory. ...
