Kelpie

...There are also many examples of monsters that take the form of animals, and the nature and characteristics of the animal they are modeled after are usually reflected in the monster. For example, there is the Kelpie, a Scottish horse monster that lures travelers into the depths of a swamp on its back, the Gabriel Hounds, a pack of wolves that fly in the sky on stormy nights accompanied by lightning, and the Wendigo, a bird demon that flies through the forests of Canada. These are nocturnal creatures that dig up graves and harm people, and therefore some interpret them as companions of the dead or ghosts.
