A village in Ayama County, northwest of Mie Prefecture. Population 6,186 (1995). Located on the eastern edge of the Ueno Basin. The Hattori River, a tributary of the Kizu River, flows west through the center of the village, and a fertile lowland stretches along the river, forming the Yamada Basin in the west. The eastern part is mountainous, which forms the western slope of the Nunobiki Mountains. Agriculture and forestry are the main industries, and the Yamada Basin is a producer of Iga rice, and beef cattle, pigs, and chickens are also raised. The eastern forest area produces high-quality cedar and cypress lumber. Shin-Daibutsu-ji Temple in Tominaga is said to have been founded by Shunjobo Chogen in the Kamakura period, and its temple treasures, such as a colored silk statue of Kosho Bosatsu and a wood-carved five-story pagoda, are designated Important Cultural Properties. 三重県北西部,阿山郡の村。人口6186(1995)。上野盆地の東端に位置する。木津川支流の服部川が村の中央を西流し,河川沿いには帯状の肥沃な低地が続き,西部で山田盆地を形成する。東部は布引山地の西側斜面に当たる山地からなる。基幹産業は農林業で,山田盆地は伊賀米の産地であり,肉牛飼育,養豚,養鶏も行われる。東部山林地帯では良質のスギ・ヒノキ材を産出する。富永にある新大仏寺は鎌倉期の俊乗坊重源の創建といわれ,寺宝の絹本着色興正菩薩像,板彫五重塔などは重要文化財。
