...This Arabic word entered Turkey and became kahve, and eventually spread to various parts of Europe in the 17th century, giving rise to the globally accepted term coffee or cafe. It was introduced to Turkey in 1517 during Selim I's expedition to Egypt, and in 1554 the first magnificent coffee shop, Kahve Khāne, opened in Istanbul, where citizens flocked to the shop in droves.
