Kahve Khane (English spelling)

...This Arabic word entered Turkey and became kahve, and eventually spread to various parts of Europe in the 17th century, giving rise to the globally accepted term coffee or cafe. It was introduced to Turkey in 1517 during Selim I's expedition to Egypt, and in 1554 the first magnificent coffee shop, Kahve Khāne, opened in Istanbul, where citizens flocked to the shop in droves. The trend of coffee craving and the political discussions held in coffee shops were seen as dangerous phenomena by those in power, and they sometimes interfered with and suppressed coffee shops and coffee drinking.
