A small earthen stove. Usually fueled by charcoal. It has been in common use since the Edo period. Today, it is used for grilling meat on the table. ◇It is named after the fact that 7 rin (1000 liters) of charcoal is enough for the fuel. 1 rin is 1/1000 of a yen. In the Kansai region, it is also called "kanteki." Source: Kodansha Dictionary of Tableware and Cookware Information |
