…Tobacco mosaic disease has long been known as a disease in which green spots appear on the surface of tobacco leaves and the leaves become misshapen, but the cause was unknown for a long time. In 1892, Dmitri Alexevitch Iwanowsky (1864-1920) filtered the juice of tobacco leaves infected with tobacco mosaic disease through a bacterial filter and found that the filtrate was pathogenic.
