...An organization created by private individuals or organizations in one country together with individuals or organizations in another country is called a transnational organization. Although these are all relationships and organizations that go beyond the boundaries of a single country, they are distinct from intergovernmental relations formed between the governments of one country and the governments of another (diplomatic relations are a typical example) and intergovernmental organizations formed by the governments of multiple countries (such as the United Nations and other so-called "international organizations"). (Figure 1) Also, there is the concept of supranational organizations, which are organizations that go beyond the boundaries of a single country but are different from both transnational organizations and intergovernmental organizations. ...
