Ohara Magosaburou - Ohara Magosaburou

Corporate executive, social and cultural entrepreneur. Born into a large landowning family in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. After graduating from Tokyo Senmon Gakko (the predecessor to Waseda University), he succeeded his father, Takashiro, as president of Kurashiki Spinning Co., Ltd. in 1906 (Meiji 39). His basic policy for treating workers was to "recognize the individuality of workers and promote their happiness," and he devoted himself to providing preferential treatment for workers and improving their education and welfare facilities. Furthermore, he was convinced that the true solution to labor issues was to find common ground between labor and management through the results of scientific research and to put this into practice in management, so he founded the Ohara Social Problems Research Institute, the Kurashiki Labor Science Research Institute, and the Ohara Agricultural Research Institute. His various projects based on Christian idealism made a great contribution in various fields. He also established the Ohara Museum of Art (Kurashiki).

企業経営者、社会・文化事業家。岡山県倉敷(くらしき)の大地主の家に生まれる。東京専門学校（早稲田(わせだ)大学の前身）卒業後、1906年（明治39）父孝四郎(たかしろう)の後を継ぎ倉敷紡績の社長に就任。職工待遇の根本方針を「職工の人格を認めその幸福を増進すること」とし、職工の優遇や教育、厚生施設の充実に力を注いだ。さらに労働問題の真の解決は、科学的研究の成果により労資双方の一致点を発見し、それを経営面に具体化することだと確信し、大原社会問題研究所、倉敷労働科学研究所、大原農業研究所を創設。キリスト教的理想主義に基づく諸事業は、各方面に多大の貢献をした。また大原美術館（倉敷）を設立した。
