…Grand Prince of Kiev. Reigned 912-945. De facto founder of the Rurikid dynasty. In the chronicles, he is listed as the son of Rurik, but the years are too long. He succeeded Grand Prince Oleg and led the Eastern Slavic tribes in the Caucasus in 913 and 943. His invasion of Byzantium in 941 failed due to the Greek Fire attack, but in his second invasion in 944 he signed a treaty with Byzantium regarding Russian envoys and trade, and promised mutual military assistance. He also clashed for the first time with the Pechenegs, and concluded a five-year truce. …
