Japanese: 大西[町] - おおにし

An old town in the northwest of Takanawa Peninsula, Ochi District, Ehime Prefecture. Shinmachi, the center of the town, was once a transit station on the Yosan Line. Fruit cultivation, including mandarin oranges, is thriving. Shipbuilding is also carried out, with many related companies. Towels are also produced. In January 2005, Tamagawa Town, Namikata Town, Kikuma Town, Yoshiumi Town, Miyakubo Town, Hakata Town, Kamiura Town, Omishima Town, Sekimae Village, and Asakura Village of Ochi District were incorporated into Imabari City. Area: 18.81 ^km2. Population: 9,091 (2003).
