...the surface of the earth is carved with numerous bowl-shaped suction holes called dolines, and underground, large caves have been formed by groundwater erosion, creating a very distinctive topography. The topography unique to erosion, such as rock towers called haystacks, often likened to "candle rocks," fine grooves carved into rock faces, uvalles, which are combinations of dolines, and large depressions called poljes, is called karst topography. The groundwater level in this area corresponds to the karst erosion base level.
