Spanish soprano. Studied at the Barcelona Conservatory. Won first place at the Geneva International Competition in 1947. From this time through the 1950s, she became an internationally active opera singer, singing leading roles in La Bohème (Madrid, London), Faust (Paris), and Ariadne auf Naxos (Milan), and in 1961 she appeared in Tannhäuser at the Bayreuth Festival. However, from the mid-1960s she began to focus on performing songs rather than opera. Possessing an elegant, clear voice, she has left behind some excellent performances of modern Spanish songs and French works by Debussy, Ravel, and others.

スペインのソプラノ歌手。バルセロナ音楽院に学ぶ。1947年ジュネーブ国際コンクール第1位。この頃から50年代にかけて《ラ･ボエーム》(マドリード，ロンドン)，《ファウスト》(パリ)，《ナクソス島のアリアドネ》(ミラノ)等の主役を歌って国際的なオペラ歌手として活躍し，61年にはバイロイト音楽祭で《タンホイザー》に出演した。しかし60年代半ばからオペラよりもむしろ歌曲の演奏に身を入れるようになる。気品のある透明な声の持主で，スペインの近代歌曲やドビュッシー，ラベルらフランスの作品に名演奏を残している。
