…He is also said to be the ancestor of the Amazons, a tribe of female warriors. In Homer's Odyssey, there is a famous myth in which he is caught in the act of adultery with the goddess Aphrodite, and one version says that he was her husband and bore her daughter Harmonia, who became the wife of Cadmus, the founder of Thebes. The name of the Areopagus (the Hill of Ares), the highest court in Athens, is said to come from the fact that he was once tried here.
