Recently, Alvin Gouldner has distinguished between the holders of these two types of knowledge as "technical intelligentsia" and "humanist intellectuals," and argues that both of them have come to constitute a new class, the "cultural bourgeoisie," bound together by the ideology of "cultural capital" and professionalism.
