gastrula

Japanese: gastrula
gastrula

In animals that depend for much of their development on nutrients from a large amount of egg yolk, such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds, hatching occurs later, but even in mammals where the embryo never leaves the mother, the protective membrane is discarded at this stage and the embryo burrows itself into the mother's uterine mucosa and implants there.
[Germ layer differentiation]
Shortly after the blastula is complete, an intense morphogenetic movement called gastrulation rearranges the cells, and the embryo differentiates into three germ layers: inner, middle, and outer. The process of germ layer differentiation begins with the formation of the archenteron, which produces both the inner and outer germ layers.
