Wilhelm Griesinger

German psychiatrist. Born in Stuttgart, he studied medicine from 1834 at the University of Tübingen, and later at the University of Zurich. He contributed to the establishment of anti-romantic psychiatry based on reflex physiology. His major work, "Pathology and Treatment of Mental Diseases" (1845), was written based on his experiences at the Winnenthal Psychiatric Hospital, where he worked for only two years. He was also an internist with expertise in cholera, typhoid, and plague. [Akimoto Toshio]

ドイツの精神医学者。シュトゥットガルトに生まれ，1834年よりチュービンゲン大学，のちにチューリヒ大学で医学を修めた。反射生理学をもとにして，反ロマン主義的な精神医学の確立に貢献した。主著《精神病の病理学および治療法》(1845)は，その後2ヵ年ほど勤務したにすぎなかったウィンネンタール精神病院での体験をもとにして書かれたものであった。彼はコレラ，チフス，ペストなどにくわしい内科医でもあった。【秋元寿恵夫】
