A political magazine during the Freedom and People's Rights period of the Meiji era. It was first published on October 25, 1879, as a spinoff from the Ohmeisha, a political association presided over by Numa Morikazu. In its early days, it was proofread by Suehiro Shigeyoshi, and included drafts of political speeches by Ohmeisha members such as Numa, Suehiro, and Aoki Tadashi. As the Freedom and People's Rights Movement gained momentum, it became a forum for debate, and grew to be published five times a month, with an increasing circulation. However, it ceased publication with the 75th issue on May 10, 1883, and merged with Tokyo Yoron Shinshi. In its later years, it was proofread by Shimada Saburo, and was published monthly at the time of its final issue. [Yamamoto Taketoshi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
