Asagiri Plateau

A plateau that spreads out at the foot of the western slope of Mt. Fuji, north of Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It is 500 to 900 meters above sea level. It is a water-poor area made up of layers of hardened volcanic gravel called Shin-Fuji lava and Masa, and was also called Sanri-ga-hara. During World War II, it was a tank training ground, but after the war it was developed and in 1954 (Showa 29) it was designated as an intensive dairy farming area, with large pastures and pastures. It is home to the Shizuoka Prefectural Livestock Technology Research Institute. Fog is likely to form when warm and humid air is carried by southeasterly winds from Suruga Bay. National Route 139 runs through the area, and it has become a tourist destination, with the Asagiri Kogen Green Park, which has outdoor sports facilities. It is a 40-minute bus ride from JR Fujinomiya Station.

静岡県富士宮市(ふじのみやし)北方、富士山西斜面の裾野(すその)に広がる高原。標高500～900メートル。新富士溶岩やマサとよばれる固結した火山礫(れき)層からなる乏水地域で、三里ヶ原ともよばれた。第二次世界大戦中は戦車演習地であったが、戦後は開拓が進み、1954年（昭和29）集約酪農地域の指定を受け、放牧地、牧草地も広い。静岡県畜産技術研究所がある。駿河(するが)湾から暖湿な空気が南東の風で運ばれるときに霧が発生しやすい。国道139号が通り、観光地化も進み、野外スポーツ施設のある朝霧高原グリーンパークもある。JR富士宮駅からバス40分。
