...A deciduous shrub of the Ericaceae family that grows mainly on serpentine in mountainous areas (illustration). It spreads horizontally with many branchlets that branch out into a ring, reaching a height of 1-3m. The leaves are oblanceolate with pointed tips, 2-4cm long and 1-1.5cm wide. In April, 2-4 white, urn-shaped flowers with slender stalks open downward at the ends of the branches. The corolla is about 8mm long and has 5 shallow lobes at the end. There are 10 stamens. The anthers have two horn-like projections at the end, which open at the tip. The capsule faces upward, is narrowly oblong, about 8mm long, and has 5 lobes. ...
