Influenced by the Apocrypha, Elizabeth and her son John the Baptist are sometimes added (Raphael's Canigiani Madonna, c. 1507, etc.). According to the Apocrypha, on the way back from the Flight into Egypt, the Holy Family stopped at Elizabeth's house, and the two children, Jesus and John, spent several days together, but John had already treated Jesus with respect. …
