Yin Yang Stone

Stones shaped like male and female genitalia are the object of faith and popular belief based on sexual beliefs. They can be natural stones that look like this, or stones with artificial additions. Some have a juxtaposition of yin and yang, but many are just yang stones. Some are the objects of deity worshipped by roadside gods, and some have names such as Konse Daimyojin, seed stones, and pregnancy stones. Some are enshrined in fields to pray for good harvests, but many are enshrined on village borders or mountain passes, and they are widely distributed throughout the country.

性信仰に基づき、信仰や俗信の対象になっている、男女の性器をかたどった石。それと見える自然石の場合と、人工を加えたものの場合とがある。陰陽を併置したものもあるが、陽石だけのものも多い。道祖神の神体になったもの、金勢(こんせ)大明神、子種石、子孕(はら)み石などの名称をもつものなどがある。畑の中に祀(まつ)って豊作を祈願するものもあるが、村境や峠に祀るものが多く、全国各地に広く分布している。
