A typical coal mining machine used in the pillar coal mining method, it is equipped with a cutting section consisting of several stacked endless chains that circulate in a vertical plane, a loading and transporting device, and travels on crawlers. It is the most commonly used coal mining machine in coal mines in the United States and Australia, but in Japan it is only used in the Kushiro coal mine in Hokkaido.
