Yuan Jiang - English spelling

Japanese: 袁江 - えんこう（英語表記）Yuán Jiāng

A Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty. Dates of birth and death unknown. His pen name was Wen Tao. He was from Jiangdu, Jiangsu Province. He was active in Yangzhou and other areas under the patronage of salt merchants from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, and mainly produced large, decorative landscape paintings of pavilions. Together with Yuan Xue and Yuan Yao, he is known as the Yuan School, and there was also Li Yin, who had a similar style of painting, but their relationship is unclear. He went to Beijing around 1724 (the second year of the Yongzheng era), and then moved to Taiyuan at the invitation of a salt merchant in Shanxi. His representative work is the Eastern Garden Scroll (Shanghai Museum), which depicts the garden of salt merchant Qiao Guozhen.

中国，清代の画家。生没年不詳。字は文濤。江蘇省江都の人。17世紀末から18世紀初めにかけ，揚州を中心に塩商の庇護を受けて活躍し，主に装飾的な楼閣山水の大画面を制作した。袁雪，袁耀とともに袁派と呼ばれ，他に画風のよく似た李寅がいたが，互いの関係は不詳である。1724年(雍正2)ころ，北京に赴き，さらに山西の塩商の招きで太原に移ったという。代表作に，塩商喬国楨の庭園を写した《東園図巻》(上海博物館)がある。
