Chemical formula: CdCl 2 . Melting point: 568°C, boiling point: 960°C, specific gravity: 4.047 (25°C), solubility in water: 140g/100g H 2 O (20°C). It is produced by reacting metallic cadmium with hydrogen chloride gas at 450°C. The anhydrous form is also obtained by refluxing hydrated cadmium chloride CdCl 2 ·2.5H 2 O with thionyl chloride. It is slightly soluble in methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol, but sparingly soluble in acetone and ether. In hydrochloric acid solutions, Cd 2+ does not exist, and it exists almost entirely in the form of CdCl + and CdCl 2 . Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
