Chalking

...Epoxy resin paints are characterized by their excellent adhesion, hardness, flexibility, water resistance, and chemical resistance. Weather resistance is insufficient because of discoloration and chalking (the phenomenon in which the pigment separates from the coating after painting, and the pigment or particles stick to the fingertips when the painted surface is touched). Applications include two-component room temperature curing tar epoxy resin paints (tar derivatives) for bridges, steel pipes, ship exteriors, tanks inside ships, oil tanks, and concrete surfaces, one-component room temperature and heated epoxy resin chemical resistant paints for the inner surfaces of chemical tanks, the inner and outer surfaces of various pipes, and machinery and equipment in chemical plants, epoxy resin can paints, which are often cross-linked with phenolic resin, for food cans, drums, tubes, and enamel for electric wires, and epoxy resin primers for room temperature and heated amino resin types for electrical equipment and automobiles.
