…The camellia, one of the most representative flowering trees in Japan, is the most widely used and beloved ornamental plant among the Theaceae family. It is an evergreen tall tree that blooms from winter to spring. Its Chinese name is yamacha or kaiseki. Some trees reach a height of 18m and a thickness (diameter) of 50cm, making it a long-lived plant. The branches are hairless. The leaves are elliptical or oblong, 6-12cm long and 3-7cm wide, with fine upward-facing sawtooth edges and a glossy green surface. The flowers are usually single and borne in the axil of the bract at the end of the branch, and have no stalk. …
