Japanese: 襟∥衿 - えり

This refers to the part of a garment that runs from the neck to the chest and the edging attached to it. In ancient China, different characters were used for the area around the neck, the chest, the collar or 衽, and the string that ties them together, eri. In Japan, depending on the shape of the neckline, round-necked garments were called agekubi and cross-necked garments were called tarikubi, but in China and Korea, they were further divided into curved, straight, round, round, round, cross, and round collars. The collar of a hanging garment is crossed and beaten in a V shape, and when seen from the front, the left collar is worn over the right, which is called ujin (also called migimae).

衣服の首回りから胸前に当たる部分，およびそこにとりつけられた縁どりをいう。古代中国では首のまわりを領，胸前を襟または衽，これを結び合わせる紐を衿というように，文字を使い分けた。日本の衣服は襟ぐりの形によって，丸首型を盤領（あげくび），交差型を垂領（たりくび）と称したが，中国や朝鮮ではさらに細かく分けて，曲領，直領，円領，団領，交領，対領などの区別がある。垂領の襟はV字状に交差させ打ち合わせるが，自分からみて左の衽（おくみ）を右の上に重ねる着方を右衽（うじん）(右前ともいう。
