...There were also innovative reinterpretations of Russian classics, such as Ostrovsky's The Passionate Heart (1926) directed by Stanislavsky and Gogol's The Inspector General (1926) directed by Meyerhold, and excellent translations such as O'Neill's Desire Under the Elms (1926) directed by Tairov. Also around this time, children's theater specialists Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Bryantsev (1883-1961) and Natal'ya Il'inichna Sats (1903-1993) founded children's theaters all over the country, which became the foundation of today's rich Soviet children's theater. The 1930s began with Gorky's new work Egor Bulychev and Others (1931), and young playwrights such as Pogodin, Vishnevskii (1900-51), Afinogenov, and Korneichuk vividly portrayed young people working hard to build socialism, all of which became fresh theatrical works.
