...For example, the telegraph was invented in 1829 by PLB Schilling (1786-1837) of Russia, and the prototype of the facsimile for transmitting still images was invented in 1843 by Alexander Bain (1810-1877) of England, who also conducted basic experiments. The principle of the telephone was proposed by Charles Bourseul (1829-1912) of Belgium in 1854, and Johann Phillip Reis (1834-1874) of Germany conducted experiments in 1861.
