On the one hand, it was a legitimate child of 19th century Europe in terms of its acceptance of nationalism, but on the other hand, it was a denial and challenge to the basic position of 19th century liberalism, which sought to solve the Jewish problem by assimilating Jews into Western European society. Furthermore, this movement had a dual character in that it sought to achieve the national goal of creating a Jewish state through international solidarity among Jews living in various countries (as is well expressed in the slogan used by German Zionist Max Isidor Bodenheimer (1865-1940), ``Zionists of all countries, unite!''). In this way, Zionism can be said to be a movement carried by diverse ideas and tendencies, with the only common denominator being the goal of creating a Jewish state.
