…(5) The Black Revolution After a large number of blacks participated in World War II, the consciousness of the black masses increased significantly. In 1954, the Supreme Court handed down its Brown decision, which ruled racial education in public schools unconstitutional. At the end of 1955, Martin Luther King Jr. and others began a bus boycott in Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, the heart of the Deep South.
