The Shari-Nile group is the largest branch of the family and is further divided into (a) Eastern Sudanic, (b) Central Sudanic, Chad, Central Africa, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to western Sudan; (c) Kunama, Eritrea; and (d) Berta, Sudan-Ethiopia border region.
