These are two volumes of memorandums recorded by Enomoto Yazaemon Tadashige (1625-86), a merchant from Kawagoe, Musashi Province, in the early Edo period. He traded salt, rice and miscellaneous grains in Kawagoe and Edo from 1639 (Kan'ei 16) until just before his death, and left behind two invaluable historical documents: Mitsuko no Kaku (1680-84), a memoir of his life from the age of three, and Man no Kaku (1680), a miscellaneous record of business, social conditions, and incidents. These are included in the Kawagoe City History, Historical Materials, Early Modern Period II. [Ono Mizuo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
