Japan Labor-Farmer Party - Nihonro no Uto

Japan Labor-Farmer Party - Nihonro no Uto

A moderate proletarian party in the early Showa period. It was founded on December 9, 1926 (Taisho 15) by anti-Sōdōmei executives who opposed the formation of the Social Democratic Party by the executives of the Japan General Federation of Labor, and anti-communists who opposed the leftward shift of the Japan Farmers Union. Asanuma Inejirō, Sunaga Ko, Miyake Shoichi, Tanahashi Kotora and others were founding promoters, with Miwa Juso serving as secretary-general (Asō Hisashi from 1927). Kono Mitsu, Tadokoro Teruaki and others were its theoretical representatives. It rejected both the left and right wings of communism and social democracy, promoted realistic policies based on class struggle, and aimed to realize a single proletarian party. Based on the Japan Labor Union Federation and the All Japan Farmers Union, it launched a campaign for non-interference in China, a campaign to reduce electricity prices, a campaign to ban and eradicate land trespass, etc. In the first general election in 1928 (Showa 3), Kawakami Jotaro (Hyogo) was elected, but on December 20 of the same year, seven parties merged to form the Japan Taishu Party, which was dissolved.
