...It is famous as a historical tourist city with many ancient Roman ruins and also played an important role in the Middle Ages. The Roman city of Augusta Treverorum was probably founded by Emperor Augustus around 16-13 BC in this area, which was previously home to the Celtic Treveri tribe, as a logistics base for the Roman legions on the Rhine front. Located on the banks of the Moselle River and adjacent to the roads to Cologne and Mainz, it was a key transportation point, and as a transshipment point for various goods it rapidly developed economically, becoming a production center for textiles, weapons, pottery, etc.
