Polytetrafluoroethylene, a type of fluororesin. DuPont's trade name. Fluororesin is a type of thermoplastic resin, a synthetic resin with excellent properties, such as being resistant to all chemicals and temperatures of over 200°C and as low as -100°C. Its composition is polyethylene, with the hydrogen replaced by fluorine. It has excellent corrosion prevention and electrical insulation properties. It is commonly used to coat frying pans to prevent burning. It is characterized by its workability similar to that of metals, but on the other hand, its melting point is 327°C and its high melt viscosity makes it difficult to mold.

フッ素樹脂の一種，ポリテトラフルオロエチレン。デュポン社の商品名。フッ素樹脂は熱可塑性樹脂の一種で，あらゆる薬品に耐え，また 200℃以上の高温にも－100℃の低温にも耐えるというすぐれた性能をもった合成樹脂である。組成はポリエチレンの中の水素をフッ素に置き換えたもの。腐食防止や電気絶縁にすぐれた機能をもっている。身近ではフライパンなどにコートされ，こげつき防止に役立てられる。金属と同様な加工性をもっていることが特色であるが，半面，融点が 327℃であり，溶融粘度が高いので，成形が困難である。
