Japanese: 家庭電器 - かていでんき

This refers to household electrical machinery and equipment (home appliances) that use electricity, and includes consumer electronic devices such as televisions, radios, stereos, tape recorders, and VTRs, as well as other consumer electrical appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, and air conditioners. However, it does not include lighting fixtures, light bulbs, or dry-cell batteries. With the exception of a few types such as televisions, tape recorders, and VTRs, the majority of today's major home appliances were already being produced in the world's industrialized countries before World War II. In Japan, however, production of appliances other than radios was sluggish at all.

電気を利用した家庭用電気機械器具(家電製品)のことで，テレビ，ラジオ，ステレオ，テープレコーダー，VTRなどの民生用電子機器と，冷蔵庫，洗濯機，掃除機，エアコンなどの民生用電気機器とからなる。ただし，照明器具，電球，乾電池などは含めない。　現在の家電主要製品の大半は，テレビやテープレコーダー，VTRなど数品種を除けば，世界の工業国で第2次大戦前からすでに生産されていた。しかし日本では，ラジオ以外の生産はまったく振るわなかった。
