Wadjak man

Wadjak man
Two human skulls were discovered in 1889 in sedimentary layers on the edge of the Wajak Basin in central Java. The following year, E. Dubois visited the site and examined them, publishing his findings in 1921. Both skulls are robust and large, with well-developed supraorbital ridges, a flat face, and a depressed nasal root. Skull No. 1 is female, 200 mm long, 145 mm wide, ear height 122 mm, and volume 1550 cm3 . Skull No. 2 is male, larger, thought to be 1650 cm3 , but details are uncertain due to poor preservation. Since animal bones discovered at the same time have hardly changed since the present, it is thought to belong to a new human species from the late Pleistocene or early Holocene. There is also a theory that, together with the Keillor skull found in Australia, it is a direct ancestor of the Australian Aborigines.
