A former town in Nakakoma County, central Yamanashi Prefecture. It occupies a complex alluvial fan on the right bank of the Kamanashi River, west of the Kofu Basin, and produces rice, vegetables, peaches, and grapes. The Tokaichi market, which began as a trade of goods between Tagata (paddy field area), Harakata (alluvial fan area), and Yamakata (mountain village area), is held every February. In April 2003, it merged with Hatta Village, Shirane Town, Ashiyasu Village, Kushigata Town, and Kosei Town to form Minami-Alps City. 10.28 km2 . Population: 11,105 (2000). 山梨県中部,中巨摩(なかこま)郡の旧町。甲府盆地の西,釜無(かまなし)川右岸の複合扇状地を占め,米,野菜,モモ,ブドウを産する。田方(水田地帯),原方(扇状地部),山方(山村部)の物資交換に始まった十日市が毎年2月に開かれる。2003年4月,八田村,白根町,芦安村,櫛形町,甲西町と合併して南アルプス市となる。10.28km2。1万1105人(2000)。
