Franco-Russian Alliance

Japanese: 露仏同盟 - ろふつどうめい

A mutual aid alliance formed between Russia and France at the end of the 19th century. In 1890, the German-Russian Reinsurance Treaty expired, and Germany refused to extend it, leading to a close relationship between the two countries. A political agreement was concluded in 1891, and a military agreement (secret agreement) in 1892. In 1894, France notified Russia of its approval of the military agreement, confirming the alliance. The aim was to counter the Triple Alliance of Germany, Italy, and Austria. In the 20th century, the Anglo-French Entente and the Anglo-Russian Entente were established, forming the Triple Entente.

19世紀末露仏間に成立した相互援助同盟。1890年独露間の再保障条約が満期となり，ドイツがその延長を拒否したことから露仏が接近。1891年政治協定，1892年軍事協定（秘密協定）を締結，1894年フランスが軍事協定承認を通告して同盟関係が確定。独・伊・オーストリアの三国同盟に対抗することを目的とした。20世紀に入って英仏協商，英露協商が成立してここに三国協商が構成された。
