Lawson (English) LAWSON, INC.
A retail company that operates convenience store franchises. In 1974, Daiei, a major retailer, signed a consulting contract with Consolidated Foods, a US food company, and introduced the franchise system methods of Lawson Milk, which was under the umbrella of the company. In April 1975, Daiei Lawson was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daiei. In June of the same year, the first store opened in Toyonaka, Osaka. In 1979, the company name was changed to Lawson Japan. In 1980, the company entered into a business partnership with Sun Chain, a convenience store chain. In 1989, the company merged with Sun Chain to form Daiei Convenience Systems. In June 1996, the company changed its name to its current name. In July of the same year, the company opened its first overseas store in Shanghai, China. In 2000, the company entered into a business partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation, which became the largest shareholder. In 2003, the company became the first convenience store to install postboxes inside its stores.

His breakthrough works were Roger Bloomer (1923) and Processional (25), which used expressionist techniques. His other works include The International (28) and Success Story (32). He later worked as a screenwriter in Hollywood, writing such works as North Atlantic (42) and Tanks in the Sahara (43).

[Died] September 22, 1922. Abbotsford, Sydney. Australian short story writer and poet. He traveled around the country working in various jobs, and even taught at a Maori school in New Zealand. After his work Faces in the Street, published in the Bulletin at the age of 21, he gained recognition and wrote short stories depicting various aspects of Australian life. He also experimented with ballad-style poetry, and gained a reputation as the nation's poet.

Born: September 9, 1850, Chicago
[Died] August 19, 1925. American journalist from Chicago. In 1876, he bought the Chicago Daily News and contributed to its growth. In 1881, he founded the Chicago Record, a morning newspaper. He also contributed to the development of foreign communication networks and the postal service.
