Rosashi - Rosashi

Japanese:
Rosashi - Rosashi

It is a type of embroidery, also known as kuge ro sashi. It is done by stitching designs into a silk ro cloth called sanbon ro using slightly thick twisted silk thread. It is said to have been a pastime for the children of nobles and samurai families in the ancient Heian period. Since the Meiji period, it has flourished year by year through the Taisho and Showa periods, and was prized as a handicraft hobby among upper class women. After that, it has been practiced by ordinary children as a traditional handicraft, and has been well received and praised in other countries as well.

Her works range from everyday items such as glasses cases, wallets, handbags, obi (sashes) and kimono fabrics, to interior items such as cushions, mirror hangers, small drawers and folding screens.

Materials and tools include silk cloth, thread, a wooden frame, needles, and scissors.

The method of making this is to attach the silk fabric to a frame, transfer the design onto the fabric using a brush and ink, and then fill the fabric with silk thread according to the design. There are various stitching methods, from one-step rolls, where the weft of the silk fabric is stitched one row at a time, to two-step rolls, three-step rolls, and random stitches, diamond stitches, mountain path stitches, and wave stitches. In any case, the characteristic of silk fabric embroidery is that it is stitched in straight lines. The technique of skillfully combining straight lines to create curves is truly magnificent. This is also the delicacy of silk fabric embroidery. Nowadays, many works are made by combining classically elegant colors and designs with modern colors. It is an embroidery that exudes masculine strength even in its delicacy.
