Workers' and Farmers' Party

Workers' and Farmers' Party
A Japanese political party. A socialist party formed in December 1948. Although it is abbreviated as the Labor-Farmer Party, it is different from the Labor-Farmer Party and Labor-Farmer Party that existed before World War II. It was formed in July 1948 when the ruling Japan Socialist Party's left wing members Kuroda Hisao and Okada Haruo were expelled from the party for voting against the budget proposal of the Ashida Kin'yo Cabinet. Kuroda was the chairman and Nakahara Kenji was the secretary-general. At the time of its formation, it had 12 members of the House of Representatives and 7 members of the House of Councillors. Politically, it was positioned between the Japan Socialist Party and the Japanese Communist Party, and its goal was to "form a broad democratic people's front and establish a revolutionary democratic government by peaceful means." The number of members decreased in subsequent elections and the party's uniqueness also faded, so it held a dissolution convention on January 16, 1957, and decided to unify with the Japan Socialist Party, with its members returning to the party.
