Rusa deer

Japanese: ルサジカ（英語表記）rusa deer

A medium-sized deer found on Indonesian islands such as Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali, and Flores. A mammal of the Cervidae family in the order Artiodactyla. It is so similar to the Sambar deer that it was once considered to be the same species, but it is slightly smaller and has a slender neck, making it appear more graceful. Its hair is long and dense, and males often have a mane on their necks. Its body length is 130-215 cm, shoulder height 80-110 cm, tail length 10-30 cm, and weight 80-125 kg. It prefers to live in forests surrounded by grasslands, resting in the forests during the day and coming out to the grasslands at night to mainly eat grass.

ジャワ，スマトラ，スラウェシ，バリ，フロレス島などのインドネシアの諸島に分布する中型のシカ。偶蹄目シカ科の哺乳類。かつては同種とされていたほどスイロク(サンバー)に似るが，やや小さく，首が細長くて，より優美に見える。毛は長く密に生え，雄の首にはしばしばたてがみがある。体長130～215cm，肩高80～110cm，尾長10～30cm，体重80～125kg。周囲を草原に取り囲まれた森林に好んですみ，昼間は森林で休み，夜間草原に出ておもに草を食べる。
