King of France (reigned 1814-1815, 1815-1824). Brother of Louis XVI. Exiled during the French Revolution. After Napoleon's downfall, he ratified a new charter through the efforts of Talleyrand and others, and ascended to the throne (restoration of the monarchy). He went into exile for a time during Napoleon's Hundred Days. After his return to the throne, he established a reactionary political system.
