King of France (reigned 1610-1643). Son of Henry IV. At first, his mother, Marie de' Medici, was regent, but she suffered from the influence of the nobles and Huguenots as a backlash against the previous king's rule. After appointing Richelieu as prime minister in 1624, he promoted centralization of power under the monarchy and established the foundations of absolute monarchy. In 1635, he participated in the Thirty Years' War. → Related article Palace of Versailles | Louis XIV Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
